MileshelfPrivacy Policy
The short version
Mileshelf collects no data about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your library lives on your phone. The app only goes online to fetch the things you add to it, and it never sends us anything, because we have no server that receives anything.
What is stored on your phone
- Your library: the links, titles, artwork addresses, playlists, favourites and listening progress you build up. It stays in the app's own storage, and in your phone's own Google backup if you have backup turned on; we never receive it.
- Settings, including a YouTube Data API key if you choose to add one.
- Your music server connection, if you add one: its address, your user name and a login token made from your password. Your password itself is not stored, unless your server does not support tokens, in which case it is kept only on your phone. This file is excluded from Android backups.
- Whether you bought Pro. The purchase itself is handled by Google Play; the app never sees your payment details.
When the app goes online, and to whom
Only to do what you asked, and only to the service involved:
- Podcasts and audio links: the feeds and files you add are downloaded from the sites that host them, which see an ordinary request from your phone. With Pro, the app also checks your podcast feeds for new episodes every few hours in the background; you can turn this off.
- Your music server: only the server you connect to yourself.
- YouTube: see the next section.
- Google Play: to check and complete a Pro purchase, through Google Play's billing system.
YouTube
Mileshelf uses YouTube API Services. When you save a YouTube link, the app asks YouTube for the video's public title, channel and thumbnail. If you add your own YouTube Data API key, it also uses the YouTube Data API to import playlists you choose. Videos are played by YouTube's own official embedded player, or opened in the YouTube app. The app never downloads videos.
- What is stored: the video's link and ID, and its public title, channel name and thumbnail address. These details are read again from YouTube every week, so none are more than 30 days old; if you remove an item, its details are deleted with it.
- Nothing about you is sent to YouTube by Mileshelf beyond the requests for the videos and playlists you chose. The app does not sign you in to YouTube or access your YouTube account.
- While a video plays, YouTube's player runs inside the app and may store cookies or similar data on your phone, as it does on any website. This is governed by Google's privacy policy.

- If you ever give an app access to your Google account, you can remove it at security.google.com/settings/security/permissions. Mileshelf does not ask for that access.
Library files
"Export library" writes your library to a file in a place you choose. It holds your items, playlists, subscriptions and progress, and never your music server login, your YouTube key or your settings. What happens to that file afterwards is up to you.
Permissions
- Notifications: playback controls, opening a video on your phone after you choose it in the car, and (with Pro, if you turn it on) new podcast episodes.
- Media playback in the background: so audio keeps playing with the screen off and in the car.
- Audio files (optional): to add music and recordings that are already on your phone.
- Display over other apps (optional): so choosing a video in the car can open it on the phone directly.
- Internet: for everything listed above.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell, share or rent any information, because we do not collect any.
Children
Mileshelf is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Changes
If a future version changes any of the above, this page and the Google Play Data safety section will be updated before that version is released.
